Essential Camping Tips

Reservations Are Essential

During July and August, campsites fill up quickly. Book at least 2-4 weeks in advance, especially for weekends. Many campsites accept online reservations through their websites or booking platforms.

What to Bring

Pack beach essentials (towels, sunscreen, water shoes), insect repellent for evenings, and a good tent with proper ventilation. Evenings can be cooler, so bring layers. Most campsites have electricity, but bring extension cords.

Getting There

Lake Balaton is easily accessible by car from Budapest (about 1.5 hours) or by train. The southern shore has better train connections. Many campsites are within walking distance of train stations.

Camping fees range from 2,000-8,000 HUF per person per night depending on season and facilities. Peak season (July-August) is most expensive. Many campsites charge extra for electricity, parking, and tourist tax.

Best Time to Visit

May through September offer good camping weather. July and August are warmest (water temperature 24-26°C) but busiest. June and September provide pleasant temperatures with fewer crowds and lower prices.
